1. Operator
Kaiwai Kaiwai (the “Service”) is operated by independent developer RITO OKAMOTO. This policy applies to the Service and its official support website.
2. Information we collect
Account information
We handle the user identifier issued by Apple, your name and email address when shared by Apple, your display name, and profile image. The Service does not assign a public user ID.
Posts and interactions
We handle video and audio, recording dates and times, an optional approximate recording area, participants, friendships, friend requests, blocks, reports, and activity data.
Device and notification information
We handle notification tokens. To investigate service issues, we may collect the type of error, sanitized technical information, app version, device model, operating system, and time of occurrence. Diagnostic logs do not record authentication details, email addresses, display names, videos, entered content, URLs, on-device paths, or location data. We do not use advertising identifiers.
Camera, microphone, and photos
With your permission, these features are used only to record video and audio, select a profile image, and save completed videos.
Location
If you grant permission while using the app, location may be used to save the recording area at roughly the prefecture or city level. Exact latitude and longitude are not stored on our servers.
Support requests
When you contact us through the official website, we handle the request category, reply email address, any user ID, device information and message you enter, and the submission time. To prevent repeated fraudulent submissions, we generate and use an identifier that cannot be reversed to recover the original source information.
3. How we use information
- Creating and authenticating accounts and displaying profiles
- Creating Kaiwai with friends, sharing videos, and sending notifications
- Providing safety features, responding to reports, and preventing misuse
- Answering support requests, investigating issues, and improving the Service
- Complying with laws and these Terms of Service
4. Who can view your posts
Active Kaiwai and their posted videos can be viewed only by their participants. Once a Kaiwai is complete, it remains available only to users who participated, through each participant’s Memories. Being friends does not grant access to Kaiwai or memories that the other person created with different participants. The Service is not intended for public distribution.
5. Retention
Kaiwai video files are retained in the cloud only while a Kaiwai is active and while participants’ devices complete the saving process. Allowing for processing time, they are deleted from the cloud approximately 30 hours after the Kaiwai is completed. Memories saved to your device remain there until you delete them.
Account information and friendships are retained until the account is deleted. Support request information is deleted 180 days after submission. Reports needed for safety or legal compliance may be retained only as long as necessary for those purposes.
Diagnostic logs sent to our servers are associated with an authenticated account for issue investigation and are generally deleted automatically after 30 days.
6. Third-party services
The Service uses the following providers only as needed to operate:
- Apple: sign-in, device features, and push notifications
- Supabase: authentication, databases, video and image storage, and diagnostic logs
- Expo: assistance with app distribution and notification delivery
- Cloudflare Pages: hosting the official website
Each provider’s privacy policy applies to its service. We do not sell user information except where disclosure is required by law.
7. Advertising and tracking
The Service and this official website do not display third-party advertising or track users for advertising. The official website does not set analytics cookies.
8. Your choices and deletion
Camera, microphone, photo, location, and notification permissions can be changed in iPhone Settings. You can delete your account from Settings in the app. Deletion removes your profile and cloud-hosted post files. If other participants remain in an active Kaiwai, the creator role and recording turn are passed to another participant so the Kaiwai can continue.
If you cannot complete the process, see our account deletion guide.
9. Children under 13
The Service is not intended for children under 13. If we learn that we have unintentionally collected information from a child under 13, we will verify the situation and delete the information.
10. Security
We use reasonable safeguards—including access controls, encrypted communications, and limited retention periods—to prevent the loss, leakage, or misuse of information.
11. Changes and contact
We may update this policy as features or laws change. Material changes will be announced on this page or in the app where practicable. Please contact us through the support page.
